We are a non-profit, non-partisan association
established recently that has the specific goal of creating scholarships
for kids who are at risk in areas (favelas, villas), and who survive in
conditions of real misery, whose rights are affected clearly. The idea
was developed during the 4 trips made by Constantine Idini photoreporter
to Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Colombia, intense and difficult journeys
that had nothing to do with a holiday or a conventional tourist trip,
from which he returned with the clear awareness "that is extremely cruel to watch and feel helpless poverty of others" and
that had to do something. Thus was born the project "A Sud
dell'America," which provides for the future publication of a photo book
with pictures collected during the trips with the help and trust of the
non-profit organizations with which he made contact and the way in
Latin America that allowed him to enter the "border areas", by extremely
dangerous and where a Westerner with a camera becomes an intended
victim if he has good reason to be there and good brokers who introduce
him. The intimate relationship and mutual trust among the gaze of the
photographer and the boys emerge from each photo, but without pity or
false and smug rhetoric of "rich" to the poor, without the clamor of the
scoop or the loud cry of misery that evokes the our imaginary images
redundant. "Enjoy poverty",
citing the documentary Renzo Martens ... Portraying children who smile
does not exclude them from the poverty they live in them "normalizes"
and makes us feel them closer. "It 'amazing how beautiful the smile of a child when all around is misery ..."
Many
children of various ages, free of family and education are collected
from the street greeted by local (not without great economic hardship)
and are looked after and made to study up to primary school. But once
they reach adolescence is no longer deal with them and are sent on the
road where they often fall into situations of drugs and prostitution.
"...
But what struck me is that many boys want to continue studying, and
often have very clear ideas. Some want to do the cooks, carpenters,
other masters ... as to deprive them of this right, but mostly why... " To create a scholarship is enough € 600 per year. The
funds raised from the sale of books, exhibitions that will run from
different areas of Sardinia and any donations will be donated to
associations of reference, who will create scholarships for children.
The amount will be personally delivered by Constantine Idini who will
document the successful creation of the bag and the emotional journey of
young people who will use it. This path can be followed in future
online through blog created specifically for the purpose.

What do you want out of life
A Sud dell'America é un associazione ONLUS no profit nata in seguto a due viaggi che ho fatto in sud America e all'incontro umano con ogni singolo ragazzo a cui ho dedicato una foto alcune pagine del libro "What do you want out of life"?
